Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959) was a Brazilian composer and conductor, considered the pinnacle of the music of modernism in Brazil.

Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959) was born in Rio de Janeiro on 5 March 1887 Received a child musical orientation. In 1915 Villa-Lobos started his professional life as a musician and 19-year-old made ​​his first compositions.

In 1922 participated in the week of art held in São Paulo. In 1923, he traveled to Europe and only returned to Brazil in the year 1929 Many orchestras were directed by him. Wrote several compositions. Organized a choir of 12,000 voices in São Paulo in 1931, an event of major importance in South America. Did several trips around the world enthusiastically driving his own compositions. Received great encouragement from Debussy and Stravinsky.

In his travels through Brazil, did research and noted in his diary the many musical arrangements of Brazilian folklore, and then analyze and form their compositions. There are many pieces he composed, those that stood out were the cries of 16 in number, these cries were made in the period from 1920 to 1929 are more than thousand known compositions.

During his lifetime received 24 titles of the Institute of France. He was a member of the Academy of Fine Arts in New York and Commander of the Order of Merit of Brazil. Received the title of Doctor Honoris Causa by the University of New York, and the founder and first president of the Brazilian Academy of Music.

Heitor Villa-Lobos died in Rio de Janeiro, on November 17 of the year 1959 was buried in the Cemetery of St. John the Baptist.
